happy bday

Today is Malc's birthday!!!

Everybody has been asking where Malc's dinner was going to be at, but as per tradition the venue was held top secret until the actual dinner.

And the chosen restaurant was . . . Zeffirelli Italian Restaurant (14 Corner of Bunn St & Pyrmont St Pyrmont NSW ph (02) 9552 1509).

This restaurant is near where we live and we'd often pass by it and comment that we should try it sometime. And it was good that we did, because while dining we overheard that the owners have already sold the restaurant.

On to the food, unfortunately, the restaurant was dimly lit and the photos did not come out clear even after photo-editing. So, a written rundown of the dishes would have to do for now.

For antipasti, Malc had figs, gorgonzola and prosciutto. Malc described this dish as clean-flavoured and the gorgonzola was not overpowering and only gave a pleasant bite to the dish. I had stuffed calamari which was quite a heavy dish with pureed seafood and spices stuffed into the squid body.

Our mains consisted of parpadelle pasta with wagyu ragu for Malc and crackling pork belly for me. Malc absolutely loved his dish and judged it to be "pleasantly rich." I found my dish succulent and the crackling quite crisp, I was wishing for some rice while enjoying this dish.

For dessert, Malc had semifreddo sabayon and I had chocolate pudding with goey chocolate in the middle.
